…An imagemaker

December 14th, 2009

As usual this software won’t work … can’t upload the image. oh well. The following note goes with a Verifax image I made in 1968

As Lee Friedlander would tell you, I am not a photographer. At best I am a photographist, an image maker.

Verifax:

While I almost always carry a monocular camera with me to “snap” pictures, I almost always end up making some sort of collage. Over the years I shot photographic still lives (the most transparent mode of collage), made a large set of negatives and positives to create a “cast of characters”, one of which is the Roast Beast, that I printed using none-silver processes; cyanotypes, gum printing, silk screen, Inko dye, and photocopy equipment.

The Verifax machine (a crush off, diffusion transfer process) offered me yet another way of pursuing my interest in pulling together a set of symbols/signifiers that pointed to and dealt with the human condition.
